Writing an introduction

(Paragraph 1)

You should paraphrase the question in the opening paragraph, that is, express the same thing in a different way. This can be accomplished by employing synonyms and altering the phrase structure. Consider the following scenario:

Example Introduction:

During the years 1970/1, 1980/1, and 1990/1, the bar graph depicts the number of male and female students studying full-time and part-time in the United Kingdom.

For the introduction, this is all you need to do.

Remember, IELTS Academic Writing Task 1’s introductory paragraph does not follow the typical paragraph structure. It is just a statement you make by rephrasing the question text.

Don’t include:

  • A topic sentence
  • A body with details
  • A thesis statement (concluding sentence).
